Guangxi University, a regional comprehensive university of teaching and research with a long history, was established in 1928. It is also the only one in Guangxi province which is included as a key university in the National “211 Project”. At present, Guangxi University has 30 colleges, offering nine disciplines of philosophy, economics, law, liberal arts, science, engineering, agriculture, management and education. It offers 97 bachelor degree programs, 186 second-grade master’s degree programs, 58 second-grade doctoral degree programs, and 7 post-doctoral research stations. The present enrollment includes 30,001 full-time undergraduates, 6,148 master’s degree students, 390 doctoral students, 766 international students and 20,000 adult students of continuing education. The university has 3,585 faculty and staff members, with 422 of them being professors (among whom, 144 are doctoral supervisors), and 711 associate professors.
With an area of 307.19 hectares and a floor space of 1,202,600 square meters, the university has equipment worth 478 million RMB. The university library and colleges’ libraries have a total collection of 3.12 million volumes of books, 1.98 million digital books, over 4,000 Chinese and foreign paper periodicals and 17,000 electronic periodicals. The digitized library has been built to a comparatively large scale, thus boosting an academic library and information system that places equal emphasis on paper and digital literature resources. With trees, grass, lakes, singing birds and fragrant flowers around and pleasant weather all year long, students can enjoy a favorable environment for university life and study.
Guangxi University is one of the first 66 universities in China certified by Ministry of Education to recruit international students. It began to recruit international students in 1961. In 2009, Guangxi University recruited 950 international students from 32 countries, with 858 of them from ASEAN countries.
While we continue to enlarge scale for international students, our university has signed agreements of cooperation and exchange with 153 higher education institutions from 31 countries and regions, including the United States, Britain, Germany, Canada, Japan and so on. Up to now, over 700 faculty members have been abroad for study, research and teaching, and at the same time, the university has invited large numbers of international experts and scholars to teach, lecture and conduct research here. In December 2006, Guangxi University and the Suan Dusit Rajabhat University of Thailand co-founded Confucius Institute in Suphan. On September 22, 2010 Guangxi University established Tallinn Confucius Institute with Tallinn University in Estonia.
